This morning’s tea 05.10.2012

2010 Nan Jian Organin Wu Liang Mini Brick
Now that I have a bigger gaiwan for my breakfast tea I am shaking up my mornings with more greens, oolongs and puerh (not that I don’t still love my black teas … I do!). This little guy ran me $4.50 from YunnanSourcing, which is a great source for Puerh (incidentally, the guy who runs it was incredibly gracious when my shipment was lost in the mail and sent me a replacement … I am more than happy to give him more business once I drink through this tea). Sheng is definately an acquired taste and I am not sure why I dig the smokey bitterness of young sheng, but I do. Like some of the more pungent teas (Russian Caravan, rock oolongs, hojicha), it definitely transports me from my here and now and sets my imagination on fire. It’s tea with a story. It also changes during the infusions, with a mellow sweetness taking over, which is the other thing I love about good Chinese teas … they have a story. A dramatic arc, if you will. It’s also raining here for the 3rd day in a row and the qi in this tea is helping me get going. Running to my journal for morning pages …
